A look at the monitoring gaps holding back African carbon project finance.
Carbon markets have grown quickly, but African land-based projects still struggle to attract the volume of capital their ecological potential deserves. The core issue is rarely willingness to invest it's data.
Most verification standards require multi-year, satellite-backed monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) before credits can be issued with confidence. On the ground, that means consistent boundary mapping, biomass sampling, and change-detection imagery that many projects simply haven't budgeted for from day one.
At Greenhaven, we've built MRV planning into every new estate from the design phase rather than retrofitting it later. That upfront discipline is what allows our simulator to generate credible sequestration estimates instead of speculative ones and it's the same discipline institutional partners look for before they commit capital at scale.
